Public fear of Anti Social Behaviour from squaddies in Oakham Rutland
As Rutland prepares to welcome a new regiment to Cottesmore this year.
A member of the public questioned the Chief Constable last night.
"These men are trained to fighter" "who like to drink"
and this was likely to contribute to the already serious problem of late night
anti social behaviour.
Simon Cole Chief Constable for Leicester constabulary was quick to distance
himself from the comments.
He went on reassure the gentleman the police work closely with the Ministry of
Defence Police and he personally felt there Army would not bring anymore problem
and Leicester Constabulary will not be increasing resources.
Whether it was RAF or Army personnel based at Cottemore there was no need for
concern.
Conservative leader of Rutland County Council Roger Begy said, He thought the Army
might come and visit Oakham once and then leave and go onto to enjoy Stamford
where they are more likely to enjoy the night life and find more girls.
I am not sure what that says about Oakham.
The public perception of the Army personnel seems to be quite different from that of #
the RAF.
One female shop owner told me I do hope Catmose will be increasing its safer sex
education lessons for its older girls!
