To ask the Secretary of State for International Development how many days of sick leave were taken by staff in his Department in each of the last three years.

The number of days' sick leave, taken by home civil service (HCS) staff in DFID, in each of the last three years, are as follows:
2009—9,098 days, at an average of 4.9 working days per HCS employee
2010—9,881 days, at an average of 5.2 working days per HCS employee
2011—9,142 days, at an average of 4.7 working days per HCS employee
