The Rutland Lions Christmas Food Collection

For the first time this year, following the start up of the local Food Bank, the Lions Christmas Food Collection focused specifically on collecting and distributing Christmas treats, such as a small Christmas cake/pudding, minced pies, chocolate/sweets etc, rather than some of the more staple items, i.e. baked beans, soups, pasta, rice etc.

They asked members of the public to "Donate a Treat" ensuring that as many people as possible within Rutland, who would otherwise be unlikely to enjoy any Christmas food treats, are not forgotten, and receive a bag of festive food items.

A interesting change The Food Bank help people in crisis three times once a year.

The Lions have traditionally help a different need  at Christmas.

The change may be good for the elderly people who have been in the past supplied with many tins of Tesco Value beans, maybe this year they will receive a pack of mince pies this year just like the older couple shown above receiving free mince pies at the Co-op opening and being directed by a staff member.

People receiving a bag of Christmas Food Treats can expect delivery during week commencing Monday 2nd December.
