Oakham Town Council Richard White Land and Building 7 Church Passage Rutland County Council

Oakham Town Council Richard White Land and Building 7 Church Passage Rutland County Council

Up to this month Oakham Town Council was satisfied it owned a piece of land that would be a commercial benefit to Rutland County Council if they owned it instead of the people of Oakham.

Rutland County Council require the land, so they can let or sell the old toilets for commercial use.

At the last full council meeting Councillors voted to give Rutland County Council the land on the poor evidence  provided verbally by the Town Clerk who is not qualified in land matters, come to think of it
neither are any of the councillors.

The councillors were all shown the three page document below.

They decided legal advice was not required, I wonder if they would have taken the same careless
approach if they personally owned the land?

I think Oakham Town Council forgets Cutts Close is held in trust by them for the recreational
purposes of Oakham residents and not commercial interests of Rutland County Council.

Cllr Simon Dyer did not vote.

Cllr Leanne Martin was again absent since failing to get elected and then receiving her promised
co-option her attendance has been pretty poor. Not sure she is yet aware of the importance
of regular attendance.
