Oakham Town Council to Award Oakham Resident Pupils at Rutland County College and Catmose College

Oakham Town Council to Award Oakham Resident Pupils at Rutland County College and Catmose College

Oakham Town Council has agreed to award pupils who live in Oakham and attend either College

The local government act prevents the Town Council spending money on one person.

So it believe it has got around the that law by giving the colleges a small sum of money and when
the college split the money more than one person is benefiting. The silver cup which will be given to
Rutland County College will be given to a different Oakham Resident each year so not one person
is benefiting.

The Clerk said it;s not getting around the law!

The Cup award will be called The Outstanding Oakham Student Award.

Cllr Joyce Lucas wanted it known she was not breaking any law because she would be creating two
music awards for students at one of the colleges, the undisclosed sum of money was coming out of her
own purse as a member of the public in memory of her father.

(The award maybe a Woolworths Record or 8 track cassette token)
