The Electoral Commission Staff Currently Holding Talks After Receiving A Number of Complaints about Helen Briggs Rutlands Returning Officer

The Electoral Commission Staff Currently Holding Talks After Receiving A Number of Complaints about Helen Briggs Rutlands Returning Officer.

The Electoral Commission has received a number of complaints from prospective
candidates, including myself.

Mainly relating to Conservative Mrs Briggs lack of impartially.

One Candidate raises the issue of his arrest after Mrs Briggs made a complaint to
police.

I raised the issue of my court case at which she lied under oath and the ongoing
investigation by Leicestershire Police's Anti Corruption Unit. Mrs Briggs and
her council are named and are one of the parties subjected to that ongoing investigation.

Election Law States the returning officer must not be in dispute with any candidate.
She clearly is.

Mrs Briggs also feels she is exempt from rules that require the post to be a restricted
post. ie: non political.

Most have complained about the timing of the count. set for 2pm on the day after the
poll closes, due to Mrs Briggs not trusting her deputies and involving herself in
the parliamentary count at Melton, where she is the acting deputy returning officer.
She says that will finish at around 2 or 3 in the morning and she needs to freshen up

If any other candidates wish to raise concerns please contact.  JDoyle@electoralcommission.org.uk at the London
Office of the Electoral Commission.

Many of us chose to contact that office due to the unhealthy close relationship
Mrs Briggs enjoys with the East Midlands Office, which happens to double
up as the local government ombudsman office.
