At Last the Truth! Dishonest Oakham Mayor Alf Dewis Decides to be honest after being questioned by Rutland Mercury Reporter

Dishonest Oakham Mayor Alf Dewis Decides to be honest after being questioned by Rutland Mercury  Reporter

Since May our Mayor has lied about the Wilkin Chapman invoice.

Only last night he told me the me, he did not know who authorised it.

After the Rutland Mercury questioned him, he issued a statement which I believe
will be published in tomorrow's Rutland Mercury and is shown below.

Congratulations Cllr Dewis for finally producing the truth, why did it
have to take so long?

It will be difficult to know when our chairman is telling us the truth

He should do the decent thing and step down as Mayor and Chairman
of Oakham Town Council.

What was the payment to Wilkin Chapman for, and who authorised it?

There was advice sought from this company to do with conduct and disruption issues by the public and Councillors which was agreed at a fixed fee.  Corrective action was required on the initial work from the firm which the Council consider should be within the fixed fee quoted.  Only when the invoice arrived was it apparent that a charge had been made.  This was paid after some correction and authorised by the Deputy Chairman at the time due to the long term absence of the Clerk.  The Council is in discussion with the firm about this additional charge.
