Oakham Pub ordered to pay £6,877 in fines and costs. The Federation Against Copyright Theft (‘FACT’) For Showing Sky Sports

COURTS CONVICT LICENSEE IN RUTLAND FOR ILLEGAL SKY USE

At Leicester Magistrates Court, owner of Jinky's was found guilty after trial of four offences of dishonest reception of a television transmission (a Sky televised football match) at the above licensed premises without a commercial viewing agreement with the intent to avoid payment of the applicable charge, contrary to Section 297 (1) of the Copyright Design and Patents Act 1988. The owner was ordered to pay £6,877 in fines and costs.

The prosecution was brought by The Federation Against Copyright Theft (‘FACT’)
Sky rely on other outlets who pay for commercial use making reports against
those who don't pay the commercial charges.

The fine may seem very high but this one was quite low compared with other cases.

A Glasgow pub was fined over £70,000 for illegally showing Sky Sports in January this
