Oakham Town Council Bends the Rules to pay Oakham Town Partnership £50 unlawfully

Oakham Town Council Bends the Rules to pay Oakham Town Partnership £50

Once again a chairman of Oakham Town Council attempted to mislead the
members regarding the use of the empowerment act.

The Town Partnership wrote to Oakham Town Council for a prize of £50
for a photographic competition to be judge by Cllr Stan Stubbs, John Nowell
and Richard Adams.

I pointed out the local government act does not permit us to use the precept
to reward individuals it is public money to be used for the benefit of the whole
community. So we can not give the money to individuals.

Despite the Councillors all having a letter in front of them requesting money
for a prize to benefit one person. The members accepted the chairman Adam Lowes
amendment to the proposal the town council will donate £50 to the Town Partnership
to support a Oakham wide competition and if the Town Partnership chose to
give the money as a prize then that was up to them.

Cllr Lowe was this week appointed to Rutland County Councils conduct
committee I wonder if he will be willing to bend the laws and rules in the same way
he does at Oaham Town Council?
