Oakham Christmas Tree and Lights 2017 Taken Down Early Due To Severn Trent Water Road Works?

Oakham Christmas Tree and Lights 2017 Taken Down Early Due To Severn Trent Water Road Works?

Oakham Town Councils Clerk decided to arrange the removal of the Towns Christmas
Lights from the streets and the tree last week.
Due to Severn Trent Water road works restarting on the 2nd January 2018.
This was not a decision taken by Councillors and something I would have objected
to if we had the opportunity.

The decorations were put up during road works.

I received a couple of messages describing the town and council as miserable.

This year the town council really needs to sort out the issue of the Christmas Lights
for Christmas 2018.

Once again in 2017 the market place lights were switched of for most of the time the
lights were up.

Many of the lights in the high street were not working. Although our Mayor Cllr Michael
Haley appeared to be blind to it.

For far to many years the council has wasted so much tax payers money on the poor
lights. Some members of the council don't think £17,000 is a lot of money to pay contractor
to put up and rip down lights once a year.

This year the area around the tree was littered with baubles they had pulled of the tree as they
pulled of the lights last week. It was good to see people the next day picking them up and
rehanging them on the tree only for the council to strip them of before the new year.

It seems the town council seems to be unable to complete the simplest of tasks.
