The Annual Castle Bytham Midsummer Fair 2011 Lincolnshire, Photographs

Vintage Cars at Castle Bytham Fair just out of shot is a Citron CV2 if that is a vintage car then I am old :-(

If you wanted to see a truly English event then a trip to Castle Bytham Lincolnshire today would have satisfied you curiosity. A very well organised event, free parking and free entry along with a free souvenir programme.

All this happening on Fathers Day. The organisers spent months planning and hours setting up, many awaking at 3.30am. They managed to organise no rain.

There was little chance of getting lost, above is one of the many hand painted signs there was even one pointing to the sky to point out the fly past of the Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane.
For Photographs I took of the Lancaster please click here http://martinbrookes.blogspot.com/2011/06/lancaster-bomber-flying-over-castle.html

At the Old Quarry you could experience off Road Thrill Rides organised by
Leicestershire & Rutland 4x4 Response are a team of volunteer 4x4 drivers that are willing  to help the local authorities and amenities within our counties. Leicestershire & Rutland 4x4 Response are able to support the local community in times where a 4x4 vehicle is an advantage in adverse conditions.

Leicestershire & Rutland 4x4 Response are part of a national 4x4 Response organisation and we have the backing of neighbouring 4x4 response teams if required.

The group started in Jan 2010 and is growing by the day. We have monthly meetings so we can get together and sort out what we are doing over the next month Event wise, and just have a general chat and some banter.

We work on the basis of donations to cover our fuel running cost, not our time that we put into the job in hand.

We carry a public liability insurance, which will cover our members when out on call, or while at an event or festival

The Castle in provided Traditional Fayre, Real Ale and Scrumpy Cider, Live Music of a varied taste.
I won't say what time but we passed to visit St James Church and one middle aged gentleman commented about the music I must be getting old. As we approached the church yard a fine lady was heard "ah the grateful dead" so I am sure at that point the music was not suited to their taste.

There was a dog show and duck racing and rest for the owners at the Fox and Hounds.

Face painting was popular and I spotted a woman from Oakham charging £7 to inform you of your future?

People were entertained by a band

McGoo is a stomping 5 piece pub and festival band from Rutland. Although there appeared to be 6 members today. They play rip-roaring versions of everybody’s favourite Irish sing-along songs, as well as some great, high octane traditional instrumentals to get the crowd dancing and going mad! Greetham's Stomping Irish Folk Band

Country seating was provided

The Dog won 5th Prize in the show and the man 1st ?

While walking around the village I spotted a former tobaco dealers house, not something I have ever seen before.

The village hall was very busy serving ploughmans lunches £1, cream teas and cakes.

Some of the locals looked a tiny bit scary, but they were harmless, I later found this lady had come along from Bourne with a group all wearing their Sunday best.

There were many stalls  to buy many things new and old, a friend of mine spent 40p on two splendid books.

There many splendid gardens in the village.

Whilst visiting the Village Church St. James a noise could be heard not only the live music from the pub it was the noise of the Spitfire and Hurricane flying over, at this time the church was filling with people attending songs of praise, it was a funny sight to see the vicar and her flock running from the church to take a look.
