Last chance to see Arts for Rutland hippos

Last chance to see Arts for Rutland hippos

Hippos seen and stolen from around the county last summer are on display for the last time.
The Hippos described as works of art are at Rutland County Museum in Catmos Street, Oakham,
until May 4.

They will return to St. George’s Barracks in North Luffenham to be auctioned in aid of the Army Benevolent Fund and Arts for Rutland on May 21.

Arts for Rutland project officer Joy Everitt said in the Rutland Times: “We’ve already had a really high level of interest in this event just from word-of-mouth and I think people are getting genuinely excited about having the chance to own a piece of Rutland history.” I have not heard any exciting comments, the most common comment I hear is what a waste of Arts Council money and the over excitement of Joy Everitt on Rutland Radio saying "the bar will be open late and I mean very late"

I also heard her say some sponsoring companies have been given Hippo's, since when has sponsorship meant ownership of tax payers property? (Art Council Money is tax payers money, before one of her mob leaves a rude comment)

Tickets are £35 from 07770 543118.

Rutland Hippo's auction Officer’s Mess at St. George’s Barracks, North Luffenham. ABF The Soldiers' Charity with Julia Bradbury update

It's finally good bye to the Rutland Hippos.

Arts for Rutland failed to gain the required sponsorship for this project so it appears in an attempt to claw back some of their losses they have high jacked a very good cause.

Joy Everett could be heard on Rutland Radio begging people to buy the £35 tickets for the event. tables of 10 please if you can't make ten we can fit you in. We have made the event affordable. Please tell me which average family could afford £350 for a night to look at some ugly hippo's?

She made a huge emphasis about the bar. By saying "the bar will be open very late and I mean very late" When will she and her friends such Carey and Jones wake and see life does not have to be a booze fuelled trip!

Are they running buses back home? or are people like Mr Beech going to enjoying another "Piss up in the Brewery" and head for the Rutland Roads in their own cars.

I am guessing as per the norm Inspector Monks will be asking his officers to turn a blind eye that evening?

Silly me I forgot the bar will be only selling J20!

Could be a good night for Oakytaxidriver  David Burton lets hope the Tyers Clan don't puke in the back off his cab.

Rutland Hippo's auction Officer’s Mess at St. George’s Barracks, North Luffenham. ABF The Soldiers' Charity with Julia Bradbury

Hippo's will be auctioned to raise funds for ABF The Soldiers' Charity

Hippo Farewell Gala Dinner - 21st May 2011 - Time 7.30pm

The fibreglass sculptures that caused such a stir throughout the county last year and cost a staggering £37,000 plus are just three months away from going under the auctioneers hammer. There will be a chance to win a hippo for £10!

Joy Everett said, “We’ve decided to add a bit of fun to the event with a sealed £10 draw.  The lucky winner of this will also walk away with a Hippo – but for the cost of just £10.

the Hippos will be on show for one last time at Rutland County Museum throughout April”

Organisers of the event, raising money for the ABF The Soldiers' Charity and Arts for Rutland (to support local artists?), expect a sell-out and are advising purchasing your tickets sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.

The auction, hosted by TV star Julia Bradbury, takes place on Saturday May 21st at 7.30pm, as part of a Gala Dinner (5 piece band and 3 course meal) in the Officer’s Mess at St. George’s Barracks, North Luffenham.

Tickets cost £35 per person and include pre-dinner drinks and wine on the table.  Tables of 10 are available if you are planning on bringing a group.
