Stilton Cheese Classic Vehicle Run Uppingham Market Place, Uppingham, LE15 9QH

Stilton Cheese Classic Vehicle Run

Sunday, April 23rd, 2023

8:30am - 12:00pm

Uppingham Market Place, Uppingham, LE15 9QH

Uppingham has again been chosen as the starting point of this annual event which commemorates the original route taken by horse drawn carriages to deliver Stilton Cheese from Quenby Hall to the Bell Inn at Stilton, calling at villages and towns on the way.

On Sunday April 23rd around 160 classic vehicles will enter the town centre and park briefly in the High Street,

the Market Place and the surrounding area. Drivers will be leaving their vehicle on show while entering The

Falcon Hotel to register for the event and receive their participation certificate. Registration is between 8.30am and 11.30am and the town should be clear of the classic vehicles by around 12 noon as they make their way to the Bell Inn.

Arrangements for the morning are as follows: -

• A road closure order from 6am on Sunday April 23rd affecting the Market Place, the High Street down

to the Queen Street junction and upper Queen Street. These will be sealed off for use by

Classic/Vintage Cars only, plus emergency vehicles. The formal closure will end at 12 noon.

Please note that it would be helpful if any business deliveries scheduled for that morning are notified to the organiser so that special arrangements can be made.

As always, such town centre events are only possible because of the collaboration given by our town

centre community. It is hoped that all affected residents and visitors will be able to move their vehicles

in time for the arriving cars. Please let me know of any difficulties. Churchgoers should be able to access the short and long stay car parks, but they will of course be very busy.

They say that beauty is only skin deep, but in Uppingham it’s built into the fabric of its honey-coloured houses. From the thatched cricket pavilion to the quaint old market square, there’s a feast for the eyes at every turn — cobbled alleys, pots bursting with bay and box, and immaculate front gardens. This is a place that cares about appearances. Life here is pleasingly traditional — and not just in November when the streets are full of sheep and cattle for the fatstock show, using temporary pens in the market square, or April when vintage cars gather for the Stilton Cheese Run. The food is very good all freshly prepared, so be prepared for a little wait.

The service is fantastic.

The only disappointment for me was the special set menu rule, you have to have a minimum of two people pay for it. Not so good when you are the only awkward vegetarian at the table.
