Journeys Festival Sunday 25th & Bank Holiday Monday 26th August 11.00am - 5.00pm Town Hall Square

Journeys Festival

Sunday 25th & Bank Holiday Monday 26th August
11.00am - 5.00pm
Town Hall Square
Journeys Festival has been created by ArtReach in response to the exciting talents of artist refugees coming to the UK. From across the globe artists from all disciplines have sought sanctuary in this country, often bringing stories of extraordinary journeys, both physical and emotional.
Musicians, poets, painters, performers, digital artists and moving image makers have arrived with amazing creative talent and widely diverse artistic forms and content to share. Often the art reflects the turbulence of the country of origin, but it can also be positive, illuminating, vibrant and colourful. Journeys Festival celebrates this diversity and the remarkable, compelling and intriguing stories that refugee artists bring.
The Journeys Festival Village includes a large geodesic performance dome, visual and digital art curated on a bespoke exhibition stand, and the ArtReach Nanoplex – a surround-sound moving image gallery created in a converted touring caravan.
Journeys Festival is being given its premiere presentation in Leicester and subsequently will be taken to other
locations in the East Midlands and beyond. The festival will also be used as a catalyst to encourage and support the development of new work by refugee artists or about the refugee experience.
Events are free access and will include activity suitable for all ages. This project is supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
